AUGUSTA, ME-- The UMA men’s and women’s basketball teams know that it is important to give back to their community.  The student-athletes arranged for food donations to be brought in for their home game on December 11th against Eastern Maine Community College.  Many fans of Moose basketball brought canned goods and nonperishable food items to donate to the Augusta Food Bank. “We love giving back to the community," stated senior captain, Garrett Alley. "As student-athletes this shows that we care and want to make a difference out there.”

UMA has been involved in contributing towards the Augusta food bank through many different ways.  Fresh produce from UMA’s community garden is donated to the Augusta Food Bank.  Many of UMA’s employees have volunteered their time at the Augusta Food Bank over years past, including women’s basketball coach Jennifer Laney.  “To see first-hand the impact that this food makes on our community is an eye opening experience,” says Coach Jennifer Laney.  “The Augusta Food Bank supports so many local families in their time of need.”

If you are interested in donating visit augustafoodbank.org.  There is a high need for items such as peanut butter, canned soups, tuna fish, and rice.
