Norfolk, VA-- University of Maine at Augusta’s very own Evan Kordalski has been named the National USCAA Men’s Golfer of the Week.  Kordalksi started the weekend by taking the win in individual play at the UMA Golf Invitational on Saturday, September 30^th against strong competition from both Southern Maine Community College and the University of Maine at Presque Isle.  With a finishing score of 83, the freshman bested all competitors by four strokes, and helped the UMA golf team finish second in their home YSCC tournament.

On Sunday, the UMA golf team made their way down to Purpoodock Golf Club in Cape Elizabeth, ME where Kordalski again carded an 83, this time tying him for 1^st with Hunter Carignan (SMCC) in individual play. The Moose finished 2^nd in team play for the second day, while SMCC finished first on the day.

Coach Keith Ross boasted, “I am really proud of the way Evan played last weekend.  We knew that he would have a good round at home but it is really a challenge when you play an away match on a course that you have never seen before. He put together two great rounds."

This is the first national award for Evan Kordalski and he is the second student-athlete under coach Keith Ross to receive the honor.   

When asked about his recent accomplishments and his upcoming trip to the USCAA National tournament in State College, Pennsylvania, Evan said, “I’m honored to represent UMA this weekend at Golf Nationals and very excited at the same time. I want to thank my teammates, coaches, family, and UMA Athletics for all their support. Winning USCAA National Player of the Week was a nice surprise and I’m proud of myself. I have a lot more things I want to accomplish in the future here at UMA.”

Coach Ross added, "Nationals are very challenging, a player must prove that he can play well 2 days in a row.  Last weekend was the first time that we played back to back matches and Evan showed that he can play well and then come back the next day and repeat that. Between that experience and Evan having the opportunity to play a practice round and map out his strategy for attacking the course, I think that he has the opportunity to represent himself and the school very well."

This will be the 7^th year in a row that the University of Maine at Augusta will be represented at the USCAA National Golf Tournament.  This year the tournament takes place on October 8-10^th at State College, PA.
