Daquann Hayes Commits to Moose Basketball

AUGUSTA, ME – UMA men’s basketball is excited to announce that Daquann Hayes has committed to the Moose for the 2019-2020 basketball season.

Hayes attended high school at Chicago Military Academy-Bronzeville where he helped lead his team to its first conference championship and an undefeated regular season averaging 12.0ppg and 6.2apg. Hayes went on to play in the NJCAA playing at Harry S. Truman College where he averaged 10.3ppg and 5.4apg while also earning Veteran Honors for being in the Air Force Reserve. Hayes excelled off the court as well earning the highest GPA on his team and was named Academic Athlete of the Year.

When asked about what he was hoping to bring to the Moose men’s basketball team this season, Hayes said, “The main thing I’ll bring to the team this season is what I was recruited for; being my maturity and leadership understanding that we have a lot of young guys maturity and leadership is going to be vital in the Locker room so coming from Chicago you can expect me to bring some grit and toughness to our identity.”

When asked about what went into his decision to come and play for UMA Hayes added, “My decision to come and play for UMA was genuinely based upon the appeal of Coach Ford and my happiness, I wanted to play for a good program and be put in a situation where I could be comfortable and come in with the opportunity to contribute. I couldn't be more thankful for my family who stayed very close to me during the decision process and they were very happy for me once I made that decision.”
