Bragg, Gerken, and Kordalski named YSCC Players of the Week

AUGUSTA, ME – The Moose have started the first two weeks of the 2017 season with several student-athletes being named YSCC Player of The Week. This marks the first time in UMA athletics that an individual from each of our three fall teams has been recognized by the YSCC and named to the Player of the Week. The Moose were off from competition this past week and look to improve where they left off.   This weekend, the UMA Golf team will host their match at the Augusta Country Club and the UMA Cross Country teams will head back to Brunswick, Maine for the Bowdoin Invitational.

 

WEEK 1

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY – Sam Gerken, (Sophomore - Yarmouth, ME)

In Gerken's first collegiate cross country meet he paced 6:26 for the 8K. He raced a very challenging course at Vermont Tech against very tough NCAA Division II & III competition. He finished first in Yankee Small College Conference competition at the meet with an overall time of 32:08. Sam ran to a new personal best at the Bowdoin Invitational notching a 31:58 in the 8K.

 

GOLFEvan Kordalski, (Freshman – Lewiston, ME)

Kordalski finished the round shooting an 80 which was good enough to tie him for first in individual play at the NHTI Invitational at Beaver Meadow Golf Club. In his second week of play Kordalski finished 3rd overall in individual play with a score of 82 trailing NHTI’s Taylor Post and SMCC’s Kevin Dwyer’s round of 81. The Moose head into Week 3 with the chance to capitalize at their home course the Augusta Country Club.

 

WEEK 2

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Carmen Bragg, (Senior - Washburn, ME)

Bragg and her team competed in the Bowdoin I Invitational alongside strong NCAA III competition including Bowdoin, Merrimack, Plymouth State, University of New England, Emmanuel, St. Joseph's (Maine), and Thomas. Bragg bested her time from the week before by over 2 minutes, finishing the 5K in 23:15. Carmen was first out of YSCC competition that included Central Maine Community College. This is Bragg's first year of collegiate cross country.
