Fred Martinez is a freshman at UMA, majoring in Business Administration with a focus in Accounting.  He is from Manati, Puerto Rico and attended high school at Colegio San Felipe.  Colegio San Felipe in Arecibo is one of the top private schools in Puerto Rico and is known for its rigorous academics as well as their athletics.  Martinez is a guard for the men’s basketball team.  He has an incredible intensity and passion for the game.  Martinez truly embodies what it means to be a team player.  Coach Jim Ford notes, “Fred provides intensity off the bench with a solid court vision and ability to direct the Moose offense.”

Favorite Class?

My favorite class is my computer class.

When did you start competing in basketball?

I have been competing in basketball since I was 4 years old.

How have you balanced athletics and academics at UMA?

I just try to work on my time management and do all my homework at the study hall. If there is anything left I do it right after practice.

What have you enjoyed so far about this season?

I am really enjoying this season so much because of my teammates and the coaching staff.

What is your Spirit Animal?

Wolf. 

Why did you choose UMA?

I choose UMA because I thought that it was the best option for my academics and basketball.
